H&M Foundation donates 100,000 USD to the Philippine Red Cross

H&M Foundation is giving emergency relief to help people in the Philippines who’s been affected by several natural disasters lately.

The Philippines is a country that is severely affected by natural and climate-related disasters such as floods, typhoons, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. In December 2019 the country was hit by two typhoons. 100,000 houses were destroyed and over 133,000 people were displaced. Schools, hospitals, and roads were ruined. In addition to this, the eruption of Taal volcano near Manila spewed lava into the sky in January 2020, leaving villages blanketed by heavy ash. 50,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes.

These several nature disasters in short time have made the local Red Cross unable to cope with its own resources. The funding from H&M Foundation will contribute to the Philippine Red Cross in their relief work.

“Thanks to the support from the H&M Foundation, the Red Cross will be able to provide humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable people.”

The donation includes basic health services, essential household items, food assistance, protection, sanitation, water supply and welfare support. A total of 35,000 people will be reached by the interventions.

“Thanks to the support from the H&M Foundation, the Red Cross will be able to provide humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable people and ensure that they have access to food, water, healthcare and roof over their heads,” says Sofia Calltorp, International Manager at the Swedish Red Cross.
