”When my grandfather, Erling Persson, founded H&M in 1947, it was with a long-term perspective and with strong values.
My father, Stefan Persson, passed on the philosophy and his message to me growing up was that our family can, and should, contribute to positive change, also beyond the company sphere. It was in this spirit the non-profit H&M Foundation was founded.
H&M Foundation seeks to achieve real change, approach challenges in new ways and engage people in making a difference. I’m proud to see that the entrepreneurial spirit and the values within H&M are now also built into the work of the foundation.
The H&M Foundation is a long-term commitment from my family and the work has just begun.”
Karl-Johan Persson, Board member of H&M Foundation
The non-profit H&M Foundation is a lifelong and privately funded commitment from the Stefan Persson family, founders of H&M group. Through partnerships with experienced organisations around the globe, the H&M Foundation aims to accelerate the progress needed to reach the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
The mission of the H&M Foundation is to drive long lasting positive change and improve living conditions by investing in people, communities and innovative ideas. H&M Foundation works within the areas of Education, Water, Equality and Planet. In addition to this, we can also provide emergency relief.
Since 2013, the family has donated 1.5 billion Swedish krona ($200 million/€163 million) to the H&M Foundation.
Our mission is to act as a catalyst for positive change in all initiatives, challenge old ways of doing things and speed up the change that needs to happen within the four focus areas. The fundamental idea is that the H&M Foundation can contribute with innovative ways of thinking and, together with its partners, find new solutions to the grand challenges of today.
The H&M Foundation works both on a global scale, creating systemic change with transformative programs, as well as in local projects to directly address urgent needs.
We inspire and push our partners to be innovative in their methods in order to develop and break new grounds. By involving people in what we do, we create awareness and real impact.
