Tembin left a trail of destruction, displacing tens of thousands, damaging houses and livelihoods. 197 deaths have been reported since the storm, more than 400 people are missing and more than a total of 673,000 people are affected in the northern and central parts of Mindanao. Tembin is one of the deadliest storms to hit the Philippines during 2017 and the affected communities are among the poorest and most marginalized provinces in the Philippines. Many people have lost everything and they will need support to rebuild their lives.

“The Red Cross has quickly been able to send out emergency groups and hand out necessities to those who have had to flee to evacuation centers. Now, the work starts to help the ones who have lost their homes. The donation from the H&M Foundation to the Red Cross Philippines will contribute to meet the immediate humanitarian needs of 20,000 women, men and children by ensuring that affected communities have immediate access to essential items and services. These include water, sanitation, shelter, healthcare, livelihoods, psychosocial support and protection. About a quarter (24%) of the total budget will be provided as cash disbursement directly to the targeted populations.
