USD 100,000 to Red Cross in support of the increased humanitarian needs in Myanmar

Myanmar currently faces a growing humanitarian crisis driven by multiple factors including climate-related hazards, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and civil unrest. Therefore, the H&M Foundation donated USD 100,000 to the Red Cross to support their work on the ground.

Millions of people are highly vulnerable and humanitarian needs are substantial. Emergency and basic healthcare services are limited, and people are facing growing social and economic hardships. Many are struggling to meet their family’s food needs and face difficulties sustaining their livelihoods.

Donation will support the work of the Red Cross on the ground in Myanmar with both immediate and longer-term assistance programmes that include:

  • Support to emergency ambulance services and first aid
  • Providing women, men, and children with access to basic healthcare
  • Providing communities with access to clean water and improved sanitation
  • Supporting people’s livelihoods through distributions of food and cash grants

As the monsoon season adds another layer of hardship for hundreds of thousands of people in the coastal regions, the support will also go to build stocks of emergency relief items to be ready to respond to natural disasters.
