Supporting Missing Children Europe to combat child disappearances

In 2016, over 60,000 children came to Europe without their parents or caretakers and in 2015, at least 10,000 unaccompanied migrant children disappeared within hours of being registered. The H&M Foundation has donated 11.3 million SEK over a three-year period to Missing Children Europe, the European federation for missing and sexually exploited children. The donation will be used to strengthen protection systems for children in migration.

H&M Foundation launches third annual Global Change Award

The annual Global Change Award, initiated by the non-profit H&M Foundation, aims to protect our planet and living conditions by accelerating the shift from a linear to a circular fashion industry. The five winners share a €1 million grant, along with a one-year innovation accelerator program providing tailor-made support and invaluable access to the fashion industry. Last year, more than 2,800 applications from 130 countries were submitted. Today, the third round opens for applications at globalchangeaward.com.

Technological breakthrough: new method for recycling blend textiles into new fibres

The four-year innovative partnership between the non-profit H&M Foundation and The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) finds groundbreaking solutions to recycle blend textiles into new fabrics and yarns – without any quality loss – through a hydrothermal process using heat and pressure. The technology will be scaled up and made available to the global fashion industry. The finding is a major breakthrough in the journey towards a closed loop for textiles.

€1 million grant to pioneering ideas closing the loop for fashion

On August 25, the H&M Foundation launched the first ever Global Change Award − one of the world’s biggest challenges for early stage innovation and the first such initiative in the fashion industry. Unicoin – the first currency dedicated to do good

The H&M Foundation in support of UNICEF presented a new currency to the world – the Unicoin. The initiative aimed to enable children to support the right for other children around the world to access learning opportunities from an early age. The only way to get hold of a Unicoin was to exchange a drawing at a campaign site. And the only way to spend it is on educational supplies.

H&M customers and employees made their voices heard – this is the result

One year ago, in October 2013, H&M employees and customers were asked to use their voice to influence which three global issues the H&M Foundation should support in the upcoming years. During one week 120,000 votes were collected – and the focus areas that got the most votes were Education, Clean Water and Strengthening Women. As a result the H&M Foundation is now working with three global programs within these areas, designed to drive positive change in the world’s poorest communities.
