H&M Foundation donates USD 100,000 to support earthquake-affected people in Türkiye

In response to the urgent need to support earthquake victims without permanent housing, the H&M Foundation is partnering with Better Shelter to provide temporary homes in the form of modular shelters for around 350 people.

With support from the H&M Foundation and other donors, Better Shelter will use the funding to build 70 temporary homes for around 350 people in the worst-hit Hatay province through the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

“More than a year after the devastating earthquake in February 2023, the need for safe housing among those impacted cannot be understated. That’s why partnering with an organisation like Better Shelter who have deep knowledge and expertise in this area is vital in providing the right support to those who need it most.”

The modular shelters developed by Better Shelter and UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) with support from the IKEA Foundation are designed to reach remote locations and can be assembled in a few hours without tools. They offer protection against harsh weather and come with a lockable door for added safety and privacy. Additionally, each shelter is equipped with a solar-powered lamp. The homes will be built during the summer of 2024.

This donation is in addition to emergency relief provided in 2023
