H&M Foundation provides emergency relief to support people in Bangladesh after Cyclone Remal

On May 26, Cyclone Remal struck Bangladesh resulting in loss of life and widespread extensive material damage. In response, H&M Foundation has donated USD 250,000 to the Red Cross Red Crescent to support its efforts on the ground.

Cyclone Remal has resulted in significant destruction of land and housing. A combination of wind speeds exceeding 110 km/h and heavy rains have led to flash floods and flooding in low-lying areas. In addition to the loss of life and damage to land and property, there is also a continued risk of landslides.

The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society aims to target the most affected communities, with the goal of reaching 650,000 people with humanitarian aid. The Swedish Red Cross supports the Bangladesh Red Crescent’s efforts on the ground.

Emergency response and recovery activities include:

  • Integrated assistance (multipurpose cash assistance, shelter, food security, supplies and first aid items)
  • WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene)
  • Disaster risk reduction
